Studentbooksearch was created by a Student in Albuquerque, New Mexico who got
tired of burning money at the bookstore. As a webmaster in college, I felt that
I could create a better solution to help connect students. I came up with the
idea of this website in 2002 but was too busy with school to do much at the time.
Finally in 2003 I took action and registered the website. As of today, I am
managing many websites and always looking for ways to make things better. If you
have any suggestions or ideas on making this site more useful for everyone, please
let me know by clicking on comments tab at the bottom.
My philosophy on campus bookstores and publishers
It is true that most colleges today make a small percentage of their revenue
through textbooks sales managed by third-party companies out to make as much
money as possible. As this is the goal of every successful company, it is bad
for College Students as most of us are barley getting by. I would honestly
rather pay a little more tuition then make a bookstore richer. What makes
things worse is many of these bookstores buyback textbooks at rediculously
low prices. I would usually just keep my books on a shelf instead of selling
them back and felling robbed.
Then there are the some textbook publishers that love to change editions once a
year. Have you ever had this senerio happen to you? You go and buy the 7th
edition at the bookstore then at the end of the term you go to sell it back and
find that the bookstore will not even buy it because they are now using the 8th
edition. What a scam! The reality is very little information is updated in most
textbooks. It is hard enough to pay tuition as it is without overpaying for
textbooks. Although you can occasionally find a friend selling the textbook you
need, I felt that there should be a better way to find the books you need that
others are selling locally.
Of course you can always buy your textbooks online and find pretty good deals,
but why do that when hundreds of other students at your college need to sell the
exact textbook you need. With studentbooksearch you buy directly from others, so
there are no shipping fees or waiting for your book to arrive. What's great about
selling books directly to other students is you can charge more then what the
bookstores would have paid you for your book. The buyer on the other hand is
paying less then what the bookstore would have sold the book for. The result,
students save time and money.
